Build a video editor portfolio that gets replies

Updated October 21, 2026 · CapyJob

For remote video jobs, your portfolio is your interview. Most hiring managers decide within seconds whether to keep watching, so structure matters as much as the edits themselves.

Lead with your single best piece

Put the one video closest to the job you want at the top. If you apply for short-form jobs, that is a 30-second vertical edit, not your wedding film. Keep a different "best piece" ready for each lane you apply to.

Keep it short and organised

Show the before and after

A 10-second split of raw footage next to your final cut proves your skill better than any description. It is especially strong for color grading, audio cleanup and UGC ad edits.

Where to host it

A simple one-page site, a Notion page, a Google Drive folder with clear names, or a YouTube playlist all work. What matters is that videos play instantly on a phone, because many managers review applications on mobile. Test your links in a private browser window so nothing asks for permission.

Use work you have the rights to show

Ask clients if you can include their videos. If a project is under NDA, describe it in text and show a personal project that demonstrates the same skill instead.

Tip: add your time zone, turnaround time and the software you use at the top of the page. Remote teams check these first.
